چکیده

As the number of smartphone users has grown recently, many context-aware services have been studied and launched. Activity recognition becomes one of the important issues for user adaptive services on the mobile phones. Even though many researchers have attempted to recognize a user's activities on a mobile device, it is still difficult to infer human activities from uncertain, incomplete and insufficient mobile sensor data. We present a method to recognize a person's activities from sensors in a mobile phone using mixture-of-experts (ME) model. In order to train the ME model, we have applied global– local co-training (GLCT) algorithm with both labeled and unlabeled data to improve the performance. The GLCT is a variation of co-training that uses a global model and a local model together. To evaluate the usefulness of the proposed method, we have conducted experiments using real datasets collected from Google Android smartphones. This paper is a revised and extended version of a paper that was presented at HAIS 2011. & 2013 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Global/Local Hybrid Learning of Mixture-of-Experts from Labeled and Unlabeled Data

The mixture-of-experts (ME) models can be useful to solve complicated classification problems in real world. However, in order to train the ME model with not only labeled data but also unlabeled data which are easier to come, a new learning algorithm that considers characteristics of the ME model is required. We proposed global-local co-training (GLCT), the hybrid training method of the ME mode...

Persian Phone Recognition Using Acoustic Landmarks and Neural Network-based variability compensation methods

Speech recognition is a subfield of artificial intelligence that develops technologies to convert speech utterance into transcription. So far, various methods such as hidden Markov models and artificial neural networks have been used to develop speech recognition systems. In most of these systems, the speech signal frames are processed uniformly, while the information is not evenly distributed ...

Semi - Supervised Learning for Acoustic

Enormous amounts of audio recordings of human speech are essential ingredients for building reliable statistical models for many speech applications, such as automatic speech recognizers and automatic prosody detector. However, most of these speech data are not being utilized because they lack transcriptions. The goal of this thesis is to use untranscribed (unlabeled) data to improve the perfor...

Boosted multi-class semi-supervised learning for human action recognition

Human action recognition is a challenging task due to significant intra-class variations, occlusion, and background clutter. Most of the existing work use the action models based on statistic learning algorithms for classification. To achieve good performance on recognition, a large amount of the labeled samples are therefore required to train the sophisticated action models. However, collectin...

Semantic Lexicon Construction: Learning from Unlabeled Data via Spectral Analysis

This paper considers the task of automatically collecting words with their entity class labels, starting from a small number of labeled examples (‘seed’ words). We show that spectral analysis is useful for compensating for the paucity of labeled examples by learning from unlabeled data. The proposed method significantly outperforms a number of methods that employ techniques such as EM and co-tr...
